Faith and Fear – Part 1

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV) says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” This is a Scripture we know by heart, but it takes years for us to demonstrate that we have faith that God can do all things.

When we are put to the test to exercise our faith, we see ‘self’ creeping up, saying, “This is not going to work out, so let me put ‘Plan B’ in place.” This negative belief immediately thwarts God’s plans. Yes, it takes effort to speak to oneself and be determined that, by faith, God is going to do what we believe He will do, what we are asking Him to do.

So, at all times let us prayfully believe, be determined to trust, and see God work all the little miracles that we are believing Him to do. Philippians 2:12 (GNT) tells us, “…Keep on working with fear and trembling to complete your salvation.” ‘Fear’ means reverence, awe, and deep respect for God’s holiness. Thus, believing in God is a continuous task, not a sporadic one.

Brethren, let us combine our faith, our determination to believe and trust God, with our fear of God, our reverence, the awe of His goodness to do all things, and all doubts will be cast away, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, as we grow in faith, strengthen us to believe, strengthen us to trust You with all our heart in reverence of Your glorious majesty and omnipotence. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
